People make mistakes. Lots of them.
Often, the first thing we do when we realize weve made a mistake is to
flagellate ourselves: Oh, Im
so stupid. I never do anything
right. And so on. But what we need to remember is that we are
creating a self-fulfilling prophecy, because whatever we believe about ourselves, becomes
true for us.
Begin to lovingly listen to the things you say about yourself, and realize how much
power there is in your thoughts, which are expressed through your words. I never get the breaks. Every time I wash my car, it rains. I never win anything. I remember a young man who was a friend of my kids. He was a very positive thinking young man.
One day, he went with us to a picnic, where they had a 50-50 raffle
(the winner got 50% of all the money paid in to the raffle). I bought a ticket for each of the kids. Our young friend, who didn't know a soul at the
picnic except us, kept saying, Think Jason Amos.
Think Jason Amos. (That was
his name.) Lo and behold, when they picked
the winning ticket, they called out, Jason Amos! He went home, $80 richer.
I am not suggesting this as a magic formula for winning the lottery. But I am saying that whatever you
believe is true. Call yourself a winner, you
are. Call yourself a loser; you are. As Henry Ford once said, "If you think you
can, or think you can't, you're right." That is how much power your thoughts
have. So choose them with care. And when you make a mistake, look for the bit of
magic that is in every mistake, and learn from it. You
made a mistake, and youre beautiful.
Beat yourself up for making a mistake, and I guarantee you, you will repeat it. But learn from the magic of your mistakes, and you
will move on, wiser and stronger, to the next wonderful phase of your life. Your attitude is the key, and which door it
unlocks, is up to you. |
